What KanbanWP is
KanbanWP is a kanban board plugin for WordPress. It lets you plan and track work on boards inside your own admin: content, client projects, sales leads, bugs, or anything else that moves through stages. It is free and released under the GPL.
A new plugin, not a continuation
KanbanWP is a new plugin under new ownership. It is not a continuation of the older “Kanban for WordPress” plugin, which was closed on WordPress.org in 2024. We wrote KanbanWP from scratch. It shares no code with that plugin and uses its own database tables.
We know people searched for kanban in WordPress for years and some of you used that plugin. If that is you, the FAQ explains what to expect, and the import guide covers what can be brought across.
Principles
Your data stays with you
Boards, tasks, comments and settings are stored in your own WordPress database. KanbanWP has no hosted service, no account and no license check. It only talks to outside services when you configure one, such as an AI provider, Slack, Discord or a webhook endpoint. Details are in the privacy policy.
AI is bring-your-own-key
AI features are optional. You connect your own key from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini or an OpenAI-compatible service, and you pay your provider directly. We do not resell AI, add a markup or sit in the middle of your requests. You set per-user token caps and decide which roles can use AI.
Open code you can read
KanbanWP is licensed under GPLv2 or later. You can read the code, change it and run it however you like, within that license. We think a tool that holds your team’s work should be one you can inspect.
Practical over flashy
We try to build what a working team actually needs: clear boards, sensible permissions, a way to share work with clients, and ways to connect to the rest of your site. We would rather document what exists accurately than promise things that do not.
