Installation

Install KanbanWP from a zip file in WordPress, activate it, find the KanbanWP menu and get through the first run in a few minutes.

KanbanWP installs like any other WordPress plugin. You download a zip file and upload it from your dashboard.

Requirements

  • WordPress 5.8 or newer (tested up to 6.8).
  • PHP 7.4 or newer.
  • An Administrator account to install and manage the plugin.

Install from a zip file

  1. Download the latest zip from the downloads page. Keep the file zipped.
  2. In your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New.
  3. Click Upload Plugin, choose the zip file, then click Install Now.
  4. When the install finishes, click Activate Plugin.

If you prefer to install by hand, unzip the file and copy the kanbanwp folder into /wp-content/plugins/, then activate it from the Plugins screen.

What activation does

When you activate the plugin, it:

  • Creates its own database tables. Nothing is added to your posts or pages tables.
  • Gives the Administrator role the capability that opens the KanbanWP screens.
  • Saves default settings and generates an access token for MCP, which stays unused until you connect an agent.

Deactivating the plugin does not delete anything. Your boards and tasks are still there when you activate it again.

Find the KanbanWP menu

After activation, a KanbanWP item appears in the left admin menu. Its Boards screen is the home of the plugin. Other screens such as Reports, Import / Export, Webhooks, AI Usage and Settings sit under the same menu.

If you do not see the menu, check that you are logged in as an Administrator. Editors and other roles do not get the menu by default.

First run

Open KanbanWP > Boards. On a fresh install the list says “No boards found.” and a Create a board form sits above it. Enter a board name, choose a template and click Create board. You land on the new board straight away.

The Your first board page picks up from here.

Optional: set defaults first

Under KanbanWP > Settings you can choose the default board template, a default WIP limit for new stages, and whether boards can be shared with public links. You can leave these alone for now and change them later. See General settings.
