Advanced settings

The less obvious KanbanWP options: exporting all data, deleting data on uninstall, the MCP token, AI limits, and the custom AI endpoint.

KanbanWP has no tab named Advanced. The options that fit that description are on the Data, MCP and AI tabs under KanbanWP → Settings.

Data tab

Export data

Download all data (JSON) gives you one file named kanbanwp-export-<date>-<time>.json. It contains the plugin settings and the contents of every KanbanWP table: boards, stages, tasks, comments, activity, board members, labels, notifications, views, AI usage and webhooks.

Because the settings are included, the file contains your saved AI API key, MCP token, and any Slack or Discord webhook URLs. Store it like a password and remove those values before sharing it with anyone, including support.

To export a single board instead, use the board export described in Exporting and importing.

Delete data on uninstall

When this box is checked, deleting the plugin from the Plugins screen removes all of the following:

  • The eleven KanbanWP database tables (prefixed kwp_).

  • The kanbanwp_settings and kanbanwp_db_version options.

  • The kanbanwp_manage capability from every role.

  • The scheduled digest and recurring-task events.

  • Default: Off. With it off, uninstalling leaves your data in place, so reinstalling the plugin finds your boards again.

  • Deactivating the plugin never deletes anything, whatever this setting says.

  • Uploaded files in the Media Library are not touched.

This tab has its own Save settings button below the Uninstall section. Take an export first if you are unsure.

MCP tab

  • Enable MCP server is on by default. Turn it off to disable the endpoint.
  • MCP token is a 48-character random token created when the plugin is first activated. Select it to copy it.
  • Regenerate token issues a new token and immediately invalidates the old one. Do this if the token is ever exposed.

The token gives full read and write access to every board, so treat it like an admin credential. See Connecting an agent.

AI tab

  • Monthly token cap is the total input plus output tokens each user may spend per month. The default is 1,000,000. Enter 0 for unlimited.
  • Allowed roles limits AI features to the WordPress roles you tick. The default is Administrator and Editor.
  • Provider “Custom” reveals a Base URL field for any OpenAI-compatible API. Requests go to <base URL>/chat/completions, and a model name is required.
  • Test connection sends a tiny request using the values currently in the form, so you do not need to save first. An empty key field tests the saved key.

Details are in Providers and keys and Usage and limits.

Not configurable here

The client portal switch (portal_enabled) exists as a stored default but has no control on the Settings screen. Developers can read all settings through the kanbanwp_get_setting() function.
